Advanced Driving

Who is the advanced driving course aimed at?
Anyone. The private motorist or the company vehicle user. Anyone wishing to improve their driving skills. All of our trainers have taken and passed various advanced driving tests themselves, so are able to use the knowledge to prepare you for the test as they understand the standards that are required.

Advanced driving course
On this course, your driving will be assessed and developed to a higher standard following the "Roadcraft" system of car control, using the same advanced driving techniques that the Police use. The purpose of this course, is to raise your general road awareness and planning skills and car control to a higher level and prepare you for an advanced driving test.

What is advanced driving?
Advanced driving is about driving safely, taking your observation, anticipation and planning skills to a higher level and driving within your own capabilities, taking into account the road and traffic conditions and the capabilities of your car. An advanced driver will always travel at a speed that they can stop safely
and under control and will at all times uphold the law.

Advanced Driving Test Preparation Course Detail
Each driver must reach a competent standard and knowledge on each of the following modules before taking an advanced driving test.

The importance of route planning, doing a ‘Cockpit check’ and having the correct posture and deportment

Using the system of car control (IPSGA)
Understand what is it, the benefits and how to apply it:
1. Information
2. Position
3. Speed
4. Gear
5. Acceleration

Observation and hazard perception
Your hazard perception, observation, anticipation and planning skills will be developed by using advanced scanning techniques and observation links.

Road positioning
We will help you understand the importance of positioning the vehicle for safety, to improve your view and to assist in smoother driving.

Safe cornering
Here you will learn how to assess bends by using the ‘limit points’ technique and the system of car control. You will also learn about weight distribution under acceleration, braking and cornering.

Overtaking
Here we will help you to get a better understanding of the key safety points regarding overtaking and where not to overtake (safe, legal and necessary)

Parking and manoeuvring
Here we will help you to understand the dangers of reversing and why we reverse into spaces and how to reduce the risk of being hit whilst parked

Motorway driving
Here we will discuss Joining and exiting a motorway, correct lane discipline. Also you will get a better understanding on the benefits of maintaining an appropriate following distance and how to position your vehicle for maximum safety (front, rear and sides). We will also help you to identify high risk locations such as junctions and what to do in the event of a breakdown or emergency (Using the hard shoulder, motorway phones, where to wait)

Personal security - Understand the threat of being assaulted for both men and womenWhat to do if being followed whilst drivingHow to identify where best to park and the security of the vehicle and contents

Highway Code and motoring mattersIdentify and understand key elements of the Highway Code Understand the safety features fitted to your vehicle

Advice will be given in the following areasSafe vehicle loadingDealing with different weather conditions
